NH Senate Race

The third poll in two weeks shows former NH Governor Jeanne Shaheen crushing incumbent Republican John Sununu in the 2008 US Senate race by double digits.  The CNN/WMUR poll, conducted by the UNH Survey Center, shows Sununu beating each of the three announced candidates, BUT, even against the least known Democrat, he can't break 45%. Shaheen has yet to announce whether she will run, but has a lot of momentum building.

This race is far from over; in 2002, the Republicans committed crimes to get Sununu elected.  He has very close ties to the oil and gas industries, and the Club for Growth has basically adopted him.  However, he is in deep trouble, due to his support for Bush.

Re: NH Senate Race (none / 0)

Anyone hear if she is considering at all?

Re: NH Senate Race (none / 0)

She is considering and will make a decision in the fall.  If she enters the race, I know Steve Marchand and Katrina Swett will both step down.

Re: NH Senate Race (none / 0)

I love that both Marchand and Swett are right outside the MOE on this poll, even with little to no statewide name id for both of them.

From what I've been seeing on the blogs... Swett is a Leibercraft and she is outfunding Marchand easily... Makes me nervous...  I'm hoping Shaheen jumps in.

Re: NH Senate Race (none / 0)

Bass who is pretty conservative like Sununu on oil and gas industry was victorious over Katrina Swett in 2002. She doesn't appeal to swing voters like Marchard or Shaheen does. She has a center left voting record that will be exposed by Sununu, the others are more centrist especially in their attitude in Iraq.

Re: NH Senate Race (none / 0)

Katrina Swett does not have a voting record, she has not been an elected official.

Re: NH Senate Race (none / 0)

She is clearly to the left of Marchand and Shaheen and that will be used against her.
